The original Mexicana de Aviación ceased operations in 2010.However, the brand was revived in 2023 by the Mexican government as a state-owned airline, managed by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).The new Mexicana de Aviación commenced operations on December 26, 2023, aiming to provide affordable air travel within Mexico. Despite its relaunch, the airline has faced challenges, including operational adjustments and route suspensions. As of January 2025, Mexicana announced the suspension of eight routes due to strategic restructuring, reducing its network to 10 destinations. As of April 2025, Mexicana de Aviación operates a limited number of domestic routes from its hub at Felipe Ángeles International Airport, with a fleet that includes Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
